Ruta Mameniskiene, MD, PhD. Professor of Neurology, Faculty of Medicine, Vilnius University.
Dr. Mameniskiene earned her M.D. at Kaunas Medical Academy. Her postgraduate training includes a neurology residency and fellowships in epileptology and clinical neurophysiology in Lithuania, USA, the Netherlands and Denmark.
Dr. Mameniskiene’s scientific interests are in the field of epilepsies, cognitive functions, headache and sleep. Working as a neurologist at the Center of Neurology in the Vilnius University Hospital Santaros klinikos, Dr. Mameniskiene devotes much of her time to clinical epileptology with an emphasis in research on pharmacotherapy, epidemiology and cognitive issues. She is also the Head of the Rare Epilepsies center (affiliated member of EpiCare) at Vilnius university hospital Santaros klinikos, Expert of the Lithuanian Bioethics committee.
Dr. R. Mameniskiene is the current President of Lithuanian Society for Epileptology (Lithuanian chapter of ILAE), member of the Council of Lithuanian Association of Neurologists. She is representative of Lithuania at Epilepsy and Neurooncology scientific panels of European Academy of Neurology, and a member of the World Federation of Neurology and International league against epilepsy. She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the journals “Neurologijos seminarai” and “Nervų ir psichikos ligos”, and Cover editor of the journal “Seizure – European Journal of Epilepsy”.
Mameniskiene is one of the founders and program secretary of the Baltic Sea Summer Schools on Epilepsy, targeted at young postgraduates. Twelve highly successful courses with more than 480 participants from all over the world took place in Lithuania, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Poland, Estonia and Latvia.
